Day 214 was 220,000 sq km higher than the previous record (which occurred in 2010). And it was 970,000 sq km higher than the 30 year mean.
Increased Antarctic sea ice with increasing CO2 and warming was predicted over 20 years ago by Manabe et al 1991, http://www.gfdl.noaa.gov/bibliography/related_files/sm9101.
A quote would be nice. But Antarctic Sea Ice was climbing since 1980.
It doesn’t surprise me if someone in 1991 was already making excuses.
